Glen Brown & Friends - Vintage Revival Selections 1967-72

 Glen Brown & Friends
Ska, Rocksteady & Reggae Selections 1967-72

The best of Glen Brown's early output as a vocalist alongside some initial production efforts. Much of Glen's work focused on harmony duos and groups in the 1960's, following a stint with Sonny Bradshaw's Jazz, though he also did some wicked solo sides. He'd begun to experiment with instrumentals by the 70's. Featuring duos as Glen & Dave (Dave Barker), Hopetown & Glen (Hopeton Lewis), Lloyd & Glen (Lloyd Robinson) Maxie & Glen (Max Romeo) and Glen & Jimmy (an obscure vocalist at the Upsetter camp - anyone know a who dat?), and fine sides from vocal groups Marcus & The Musketeers and The Graduates (Glen Brown, Joe White & Trevor Shields).

Labels: Doctor Bird, Fab, Stag, Treasure Isle, Studio One, GGs, Coxsone, Harry J, Beverleys, Flame, Bra, Upsetter, Darace, Shalimar and Glen Brown's own Pantomine.

Continuous mix. 96 minutes.

KING VOLTS Live at the Tumble Inn, Bradford 1987

King Volts - Live at the Tumble Inn 1987. The legendary Newcastle/Bradford reggae band onstage in Bradford. Brisk, dub-heavy live sound. Solid, irie festival vibes.
King Volts formed in 1982 in Fenham, Newcastle and were regulars on the Northeast gig circuit during the mid-80s, supporting visiting acts like Black Roots. Anyone see them at the Riverside? The band moved to Bradford in 1986 where they quickly built up a local following alongside their King Volts Sound System while traveling to play at free festivals. Key members emigrated and, sadly, the band split in 1987.
Volts reformed for a great reunion gig in 1988 at the 1in12 Club, Bradford, another memorable night.
Respect to Igger, Martin, Cess, Steve, John, Andy, Mickey, Diccon, The Rootsman, Larry and everyone. King Volts are still fondly remembered. If any of you come on here, link up, leave a comment.... Paul.
Taken from the original PA tape. 58 minutes. Shame I lost the old Newcastle Demo tape.
Thanks to Iain for ripping this, bless man...Repost...

Travelling East 1997

 Travelling East 1997
mixtape remaster from the original C90. A great year for roots reggae. Established nu roots stars like Sizzla, Luciano, Capleton and Tony Rebel stand alongside veterans Barrington Levy, Gregory Isaacs and Everton Blender, while emerging talent like Morgan Heritage, Daweh Congo, Anthony B and Bushman come on strong. A real highlight of that year was the Reggae Day at Finsbury Park, London. A whole heap a artist come down - Beenie Man, Anthony B, Everton Blender, Macka B, Earl 16, U-Roy, Danny Red, Mad Prof. etc. etc... I missed (the ever-disappointing) Lee Perry as he was on at the same time, on another stage from Beenie who was magnificent... no contest who to watch there!

Riddim like Star Trail's Burning Bush & Lift Up Your Head, Heathen (Digital B), War (African Star), Collie Weed, Kette Drum, Slave Master (Jazz Jamaica), Mr Bassie (Xterminator), Revolution, Stepping Outta Babylon (Penthouse), Satta (Digital B & Manatee), Mount Jerusalem (Firehouse Crew) and the awesome Ghetto People Song (Flames).
